Chola emperor who built the Brihadisvara Temple and expanded the empire.
p>Rajaraja Chola I (r. 985–1014) raised the Chola Empire to imperial greatness, conquering parts of Sri Lanka, the Maldives and the Deccan and reorganizing the empire's revenue administration and local self-government. His reign is documented in remarkably detailed temple inscriptions.</p><p>His crowning achievement was the Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, completed in 1010, a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.</p>
